Why did you decide to do photography? And why on your own?

Honestly I have loved photography my entire life but it wasn’t until I wanted to start a family & be with my kids that I took photography to a professional level. I worked under another photographer for a year and then opened my own business in December of 2007.

What’s one of your most favorite projects? Why?

I shot a wedding for Southern Bride Magazine in Athens, GA and that was by far my most memorable and favorite experience. It was a 3 day event even for me and it was so fun and detailed oriented. And I got to experience a new city. What could be better?

Where is your dream place to shoot? Why?

Oh I would love to shoot a wedding in the mountains. I used to say I wanted to shoot a beach wedding but now that I have done that I definitely want to experience a mountain wedding!

Who do you admire?

I admire Katelyn James & Jenna Kutcher the most!

Describe your style in 3 words.

Fun, authentic, & free.

What’s your go-to K&J product? Why?

I am obsessed with the USB boxes. I don’t know if it’s the simplicity of them or the originality but I just think they are the coolest!

What are tricks you use to manage the business and marketing side of your business?

I hired a social media manager this time last year and it was by far the best decision I ever made! I love social media and sometimes I even miss posting but the weight of it all can be very heavy and overwhelming so I highly recommend hiring someone to share the load!

What do you collect?

Wine corks, tiny plants that I cannot kill, and old vintage drinking glasses.

What is your favorite thing about where you live?

I love the southern charm and hospitality of Tennessee. I was born & raised in Memphis but the I truly love the entire state. Although I will say I think Memphis has the most soul!

What would people find most surprising about you?

I HATE having my photo taken. Shocker right? That’s why I love being behind the camera!

What’s your favorite piece of gear or tech that helps you do your job best?

My phone. This seems silly but I am seriously lost without it. Remember the days when you had to come home to see if you missed a call? Answering machines? What! And carrying around a paper calendar - bummer. Smart phones were a total game changer for someone like me who is driving from shoot to shoot so frequently.

What is your favorite physical place to go for inspiration?

Shelby Farms here in Memphis, TN. The sunset over the lake is the most incredible sunset I’ve ever seen. Anytime I am lacking motivation, creativity, or inspiration I go there.

What is your favorite podcast, TV show, or book about creative business?

I have to admit I don’t frequently listen to Podcasts. And I haven’t read a book about creative biz in a long time. But everything I read from women who have gone before me and killed it (Katelyn James, Jenna Kutcher, Kelly Moore, etc) inspires me.

Who is your favorite influencer, blogger, author? Why?

I love the ladies I mentioned above but I also totally adore Lara Casey. I can’t not hit LIKE on everything she posts!

What is your favorite thing about your everyday?

My favorite thing about my everyday is getting to do what I love. Even when I am burned out & feeling the weight of the comparison game - I remind myself that I am still living out my dream. I am my own boss, I get to be creative whenever and however I want, I get to share my love with people all over, & I get to do it MY way. How cool is that!?!
